  • Reading Comprehension

We all know that sharks are dangerous, but it’s time to
listen to what the sharks may say. They complain that they are
endangered around the world because their fins have become
famous dishes on the table. The market shows a large shark fin
can sell for more than NT$10,000 in China. Though sharks are
considered to be the largest and deadliest fish in the world, its
numbers are quickly declining. Believe it or not, this is not
because of the power of nature. Delicious Chinese shark fin soup
is the number one killer that has threatened their lives.

There are some foreign superstitions that might be strange or funny to us, For example, if you sneeze, western people usually say, “God bless you.” to you. How come one’s sneeze has anything to do with God? It is because the old western world believed that the soul could run away from a man’s body when he sneezed. To stop this from happening, they turned to God for help. Another interesting example is that when they wish us good luck, they sometimes say “break a leg!” How may one person be so mean to us? Well, the truth is that they want to trick evil spirits into staying away from us and keep us safe. So next time when you hear somebody say those words to you, will you be angry?

    (D) They’ll die.

(  ) 2.How will you feel on hearing “break a leg!” after you finish the reading?
