Topic: How does Ms. Tseng (曾靜榕老師) try to help her students to move on in class?
Ms. Tseng (曾靜榕老師) has been teaching for thirty-five years. Today, she shared with English teachers
in Chung Ping Junior High School(中平國中) about
how she has been trying to help her students to move on in class.
First, as for
teaching vocabulary, phonics rules are introduced in her class to help students
pronounce words. With some interesting activities such as spelling games, word
puzzles, or board games, students can stay wild awake in class. Second, collaborative
learning brings students working in groups, feeling safe and learning together.
Third, focusing on one concept at a time because is helpful for students to
create successful learning experiences. Besides, a stage for students to
express themselves is significant. When students have to stand in front of
others and speak English, even though just to read a short dialogue, they will
practice all day long in order to get well-prepared. Additionally, having
students play English board games in class not only maintains students’
learning interests but makes them practice what they have learned in different
ways.
