What do you know about international education? It includes not only about languages , but also the culture behind languages.
What is in your mind when talking about the USA, the UK, Singapore, and so on? Or be more specific, what is the most representative food when taking about the USA, the UK, Singapore, and so on? Or when I say "hamburger and pizza", which country shows up in your mind? How about "tea and fish & chips"?
When two different races get together, which attitude or actions do you think might cause misunderstandings? As a Chinese, we don;t say what we really think; however, a western person might upset you easily due to his honesty. These are the stereotypes and culture shocks when two races meet together and learn from each other.
It is easy to speak like an American or a British only if you study hard; nevertheless, it would be difficult to think like them. And that's why English teachers play a very important role to build a bridge to connect Taiwanese social background and western cultures. Teachers teach not only English but also who speaks English, how they speak, what they say and why they say so. Reinforcing cultures with language teaching makes language learning more efficient!
There are several Internet medium which teachers are able to invite students to meet people from other cultures via various ways, such as make a pen pal,holiday cards exchange, and so on.
