100學年度C區巡迴輔導


Over seventy representatives from Fong Yuan and its vicinity attended a workshop held for in-service English teachers to exchange innovative teaching strategies in Fong-Yuan Junior High School, and this was also the very first time for teachers from the previous Taichung County to participate in such meeting, which has been around in the original Taichung City for so many years, and give their professional feedback to all the speakers.

I was honored to be the keynote speaker and do my oral presentation on “Teaching in English”, sharing how I conducted a special class for students’ extra curricular activity and using English as the medium of instruction throughout the whole semester. I collected many intriguing English-speaking videos from Youtube as excellent supplementary learning materials, such as Jeremy Lin’s games, reality shows, street magic and so on, to arouse students’ interest in the application of the English language.
A total of seven other dedicated speakers also presented their thought-provoking and innovative teaching techniques, complete with a variety of interactive activities, like the riddle-guessing game, videos for table manners, picture drawings, movie scripts, to name just a few. All of them aimed to enhance students integrated language skills other than the tedious grammar drills in the textbook. On top of that, there were also teachers putting Readers Theater into practice in her class, getting students to use English to introduce the beauty of their hometown and using interactive websites to assist students with the authentic use of the language.
It was indeed a very educational workshop where all the fully prepared speakers shared their original and workable ideas of teaching. Through this collective wisdom, we committed to the improvement of our quality instruction regardless of the Washback Effect that has dominated for such a long time. Though it cannot be the ultimate solution, it will be a good start for the realization of teachers as “Professional Learning Community”.
