It's our honor to invite Bunny Hsieh, researcher at English Center in New Taipei City, talking about digital technology in language classroom today. The term digital technology refers to technology relying on computer chips--to distinguish it from more standard forms of educational technology, such as overhead projectors or even chalkboards. It is critical to recognize that, when we talk about classroom technology, we are no longer limited to thinking only about computers but an assortment of devices ranging from the smallest programmable smartpen to the desktop tower computer.
Take ClassDojo, a beautiful, safe, simple communication app for teachers, parents, and students, for example, she states that it is so useful for English teachers for improving behaviors, sharing data, and saving time.
Also, interactive storybooks help to boost students' reading comprehension on the story line. Storybooks are usually written in rhyme and rhythm. They help students develop auditory discrimination, listening skills, and phonemic awareness.
At last, Bunny mentioned that Padlet is a powerful tool for us English teachers to use. Padlet is a great tool for tracking class updates. By using it in the classroom, we can track current and upcoming class assignment's topics and their due dates. In addition, we can design and place greeting cards with personal messages.
We are all TESOL practitioners. By applying digital technology in our language classes, we could make our English classes much more interesting and vivid. Let's give it a try!
