A joint committee
is organized by the Advisory Group, and both members of the Elementary
and Junior High subgroups
meet on a
regular basis to have a professional discussion about
the current teaching practices between these two stages. The main idea of this
meeting is for all the members to have a chance of exchanging teaching ideas
and techniques regarding some of the frequently asked questions, like the
Bipolar Distribution phenomenon, Remedial Teaching, Multiple Assessment, the
Washback Effect, etc, that we usually encounter when meeting teachers on the
front line.
It was also our honor today to
be able to see the former Head of the Education Bureau in person and be given
some useful advice in terms of valuable practice of the Group. With the concise
and to the point briefing by Mr. Cheng, now the principal of Wagor High School,
we had a better understanding of the fundamentals of this emerging senior high
school. What’s more, the school also boasts some of the most cutting-edge
facilities, like the overhead interactive projectors and topnotch venues and equipments
that are qualified to hold a national cooking competition.
On top of that, some important
decisions were made at the meeting as well. For example, a new city-wide
English Speech Contest is on the way so that students will have an extra chance
of demonstrating what they can do with the language in public. Also, the Group
is planning a field trip to the most remote area of Taichung City, Li Shan, and
have a variety of professional activities, such as teaching demonstrations and
a professional dialogue with English teachers there, hoping that the Group can
also contribute to the innovation of English teaching strategies for the
neighboring schools.
