Readers Theater, or RT,
has been gaining popularity all around the island these years, and Taichung City also encourages
English teachers to adopt it as a teaching strategy in the classrooms, helping
integrate reading comprehension and speaking skills. Therefore, the RT
Competition is meant to provide such a good opportunity for both teachers and
the English learners to keep on improving themselves.
Teacher Archie, a well-know activist of RT, has been so dedicated to help
English teachers have a basic concept of RT and be able to write their own
scripts. As far as I know, he is compiling a book specifically for the use of
RT as a teaching technique. He is usually invited by the Advisory Group to judge the competition as well. On top of that, what he can share with
teachers are not just abstract theories but abundant field experiences, like
how to rewrite a story or train students to compete in a competition.
For those teachers who attended the workshop, I’m sure you must all be
learning a lot about RT. If you are planning to coach students and attend the
competition next semester, you can find the live DVD and gain some helpful
insights, or you can have a look at this, which is my personal ideas about the
competition after we won the second place this May^^.
