領召會議暨有效教學研習

 Effective Teaching has been billed as one of keys to the success of The Twelve-Year-Compulsory Education, which is also considered by many the major educational overhaul in the history of Taiwan. The main idea is that teachers can employ a variety of creative and suitable techniques to suit the needs of learners with different learning styles. Therefore, it was our honor today to invite Pro.廖美玲 from the Department of English of National Taichung University to share some of her insightful ideas on this very important topic.

From the photo above, you can see that there are eight most commonly used strategies to achieve effective teaching, such as creating a mellow classroom atmosphere, using digital media, providing hands-on activities and so on. According to many studies, Effective Teaching is also crucial to build criterion for Teacher Professional Appraisal in the years to come. Following that, the Think-Pair-Share strategy was conducted to help the participants better understand what Effective Teaching means to them in terms of English teaching. Also, some useful online resources were recommended, like Rosetta Stone, English Baby, My Happy Planet, etc. to echo the notions of Web 2.0 learning.
The second half of this meeting was again, for teachers to know important English policies of Taichung City, the schedule of workshops for this new school year and English competitions. Effective Teaching, Multiple Assessment and Remedial Teaching, also known as “有、多、補are essential in-service training courses stipulated by the MOE, requiring all teachers to take a total of eighteen hours’ participation by the end of this summer vacation to meet the challenges of the current education reform. Therefore, the Advisory Group has scheduled several workshops on those topics in the hope that teachers of Taichung can be equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills to cope with the transformation brought up by these new requirements.
During the Q & A Session, teachers also grabbed this great chance to ask questions with regard to the workshops, competitions and so on in the presence of high-ranking officials from the Education Bureau, and they were all properly answered. Finally, on behalf of other members, I would really like to appreciate gratitude towards Gloria, 林秀慧, who is truly devoted all her time to organizing everything, and may she take good care of herself.
