The last activity held by the Advisory Group this year was to take a number of teachers to pay a visit to Yingpei English Village in Nantou County, hoping to gain a more vivid understanding of what Yingpei Junior High School boasts for reference. We were all deeply inspired by the dedicated and professional briefing and instructions of the principal and staff.

創新英語教學培養世界觀
To
begin with, Cicely
Meng noted the importance of intercultural knowledge
and awareness in terms of teaching English in a more creative way. By providing
many interesting comparisons of expressions from different English-speaking
countries, teachers were gradually aware that a more effective teaching can be
accomplished through incorporating authentic materials with ready-made
textbooks, arousing students’ awareness of diverse cultures. Also, teachers
were encouraged to perform a hands-on activity designing their own business
card as a glimpse of creative teaching.

illustrating English, imagination and determination as the driving forces to
make educational globalization possible.
100年度勤耕發表-English village and its implication on teaching
English
village and its implication on teaching

A number of English villages have popped up all over
the island in only a couple of years, and even more of them are now under way.
As a member of the Advisory Group, I was given many opportunities to visit
several of them, like the ones in Taoyuan, Mialoi, Yunlin and Kaohsiung. Through their English-speaking
environment, I was able to see how they made use of native speakers and all
sorts of resources to boost young English learners’ interest to learn the
language in a more authentic way.
